I'm beyond excited to announce that our short film, Domestic Animals, co-directed with the amazing Sandy Siquier, has been officially selected for the Africa Film for Impact Festival (AFFIF). This prestigious festival will take place from October 29-31, 2025, in Abuja, Nigeria.
AFFIF is dedicated to showcasing powerful films that champion human rights and social justice. This year's theme, "Be The Change," is a call to action, focusing on critical issues like human rights, gender equity, sexual and gender-based violence, democracy, accountability, and climate change.
For us, having Domestic Animals screened in Abuja is a chance to connect with audiences across Africa and beyond who are eager to engage with thought-provoking stories. The festival’s focus on impact-driven cinema aligns with our vision for this film: to foster empathy, inspire meaningful conversations about gender-based violence, and spark positive change.
I’m deeply grateful to the AFFIF selection committee for recognizing the importance of our story. Huge thanks to Ignacio García-Bustelo for his compelling portrayal of the husband character; the talented film students from Syracuse University's Department of Film and Media Arts, who formed our incredible crew; Javier Weyler, whose powerful soundtrack elevates the film; Leo Zuloaga for his outstanding color grading; and, of course, my co-director and partner in everything, Sandy Siquier, whose acting brilliance and unwavering dedication to addressing domestic violence through storytelling made this film possible.
Thank you for supporting impactful cinema!
