I'm thrilled to share that my feature film script "The Cyclops," co-authored with the talented Sandy Siquier, received an Honorable Mention in Screenwriting at the 2025 University Film and Video Association (UFVA) Conference at Prairie View A&M University in Texas this July.
"The Cyclops" was born from a deeply personal need to preserve what time and political turmoil have eroded. Set against the backdrop of the turbulent Venezuela of 1992, the film tells the story of Chris, a college senior, and his two irreverent friends as they struggle to overcome numerous setbacks on a road trip to Margarita Island before their paths split forever. This screenplay serves as both a vivid portrait and a poignant autopsy of a moment when the familiar transformed into the unrecognizable.
What makes this project special is its use of marvelous realism to explore how incomplete perspectives shape our understanding. Every character is a "cyclops"—partially blind, limited in their ability to see where they're heading.
Being recognized at the UFVA 79th National Conference is not only an affirmation of our creative work but also a powerful acknowledgment of the importance of preserving the memory of a fractured nation.
